Chamber rallies behind Washington Roundtable, Challenge Seattle in tackling organized retail crime

Advocacy, Community, In the News,

Good news: We are joining forces with Challenge Seattle, the Washington Retail Association (WR), the Sound Cities Association, and the Seattle Metro Chamber to tackle organized retail crime!

Under the leadership of Gov. Christine Gregoire and WR’s Renée Sunde, we’ve created an 18-member steering committee including business owners, law enforcement, and prosecutors to “help formulate the region’s next steps establishing a long-term public-private partnership.”

Retail crime has been an issue at the top of our members’ minds for years now — we hosted a lunch on the topic back in May of 2023, have written Position Papers on the issue, and frequently hear from law enforcement at our gatherings — and WR reports that over 50 percent of King County’s Police Chiefs still identify it as one of their top public safety priorities.

In addition to the steering committee, we will also be working with the aforementioned groups to host a half-day public safety summit in October. Stay tuned for details!
