Council unanimously approves City of Bellevue’s 20-year Comp Plan update
After years of painstaking work by City of Bellevue staff, Council unanimously approved the Comp Plan update for 2024-2044 last week. Most recently updated in 2015, the Comp Plan acts as a guide for growth and development for the next two decades, and the most recent iteration includes plans for 35,000 additional units of housing and 70,000 more jobs by 2044.
“We’re beyond excited about the level of growth we’re anticipating, and the considerations and diligence by City staff, Council, and Commissions in order to tailor this document to fit Bellevue’s current and future needs,” said Chamber VP of Government Affairs, Jodie Alberts. “We are looking forward to implementing future policies based on this foundational document alongside the City in areas such as housing, transportation, energy, and infrastructure in order to grow thoughtfully, sustainably, and adequately.”
The plan largely focuses on transit-oriented development and meeting our massively unmet housing needs, with the goal of “creat[ing] an equitable opportunity for a high quality of life for all our residents,” according to Mayor Lynne Robinson.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment,” she said. “From emphasizing transit-oriented communities, centering equity, and advancing housing affordability, it's an exciting time for Bellevue.”

Congrats and THANK YOU to everyone — staff, electeds, community members — who helped get this behemoth established and approved.
