Northwest Kidney Centers begins Bellevue clinic renovation
Sept. 26, 2019—Golden sledgehammers swung in a ceremony at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 as Northwest Kidney Centers officially started renovation at its Bellevue dialysis clinic.
The clinic opened in 1981 at 1474 112th Ave. NE in the Pacific Office Park. Last year its staff provided nearly 10,000 dialysis treatments, which sustain the lives of people whose kidneys don’t function.
Operations will continue during the construction, which is expected to last until next summer. The expansion project will:
- Renovate the dialysis clinic to be bright and spacious.
- Add dedicated space to train people to give themselves dialysis at home, attend health education classes, and participate in kidney research.
- Add an elevator to make every area of the building more accessible.
- Update the water purification equipment to use a state-of-the-art heat disinfection method. Ultrapure water is mixed with chemicals to make the solution that cleans wastes from a patient’s bloodstream.
Northwest Kidney Centers’ Elevating Eastside Kidney Care capital campaign has reached 88% of its $4 million goal. Bellevue residents Pam and Bill Ayer provided the lead campaign gift. Donations will offset the nonprofit health care provider’s total investment in the project.
Aldrich + Associates is the general contractor, Mahlum is the architect, and Spectrum Development Solutions is owner’s representative.
