Our biggest takeaways from the Seattle Sports Commission’s Region Ready Summit
So, you know how the greater Seattle area is hosting a REALLY, REALLY big soccer tournament next summer? Yeah ... there is a lot of work to be done to prepare the region.
As part of their preparation efforts, the Seattle Sports Commission has kicked off their "Region Ready" programming, with the first open-to-public event of its kind held last week in downtown Seattle. Read the recap of the event below, and be sure to take a peek at the materials the Commission and Welcoming Committee have begun to put together for the community.
The Takeaways
- Seattle is a sports town, and we are prepared for this. Our infrastructure did just fine when the hordes of friendship-bracelet-wearing Swifties came a few summers ago — AND our sports stadiums were filled with our own fans at the same time — and the connector light rail is still expected to be complete this winter. We love our sports teams, including the Sounders, and there is a ton of excitement around new teams here. We’re getting a PWHL franchise, the Kraken have rallied a massive following, and cricket is even making its debut, too. So, of course we have enough energy to host the world’s most popular sport, right?
- We all need to be extremely careful with the use of logos, trademarked phrases, and the like when promoting non-FIFA sponsored events or messaging. Official terms including “FIFA,” “Club Cup,” “World Cup,” or “Club World Cup,” in the naming, advertisements, or digital promotion of watch parties or similar events is strictly prohibited. Trust us, you do NOT want to celebrate next summer’s festivities with a lawsuit.
- There is going to be a lot of room for the business community — and community at large — to plug in. Whether during the tournament this summer in 2025 featuring the world’s best club teams, to the themed events for Juneteenth, Pride Month, and more next year, the possibilities are endless when it comes to local activations, themed promos, and the like.
